It's what's for dinner.
Not beef. Though I'm not against it; I am a Texan after all. Though, any time I actually think about meat--I wouldn't eat it. Which is a sign, I know. but I do like it. So in my pretend hippy, organic buying, lara bar child eating, farmers markety ways... I made all of G's baby food. I loved it. I like cooking. However, once he started eating "solids" it seemed way harder to me. How can I get him to eat kale now? It's hard to chew. Then I fall into a super rut of mac n cheese (annie's duh), edamame, green peas, broccoli, chicken (hate), pbj, etc etc boring plain food that is often frozen and cooked up as fresh.
I found this website with this lady who is way more creative than me, reminded me I can cook, and she took pics of her kids meals. I was INSPI(red). Take that GAP. Though I think they already make that one. this post does in no way benefit the AIDS foundation... though I wish it did. Please feel free to donate.
G$ LOVES a dipping sauce. Which I never give him (ps. ketchup makes me vommy. So does mayo.) I give him yogurt which he uses as a dipping sauce. Anywho, so today I bought some raw flour tortillas (yum.) cooked it up, made a quesadilla with black beans, corn, cheese, guacamole (dipping sauce), cooked carrots (which he hates--he IS mine), and blueberries. He ate it alllllllllllllllllll. except the carrots which he kindly used as a spoon for the guac and then put back on his tray. He also kept saying "wiiiiiinnneeeee" because that's what I had for his dinner.
All of this to say, we now have ice so I can reintroduce my roman cokes into my life which makes me a better mom. Wait, no, this was about my cooking for the G-man.
Oops. Sorry Shaina, better luck next time.

I used to only do the organic/all natural/hippie thing for my boy and I loved it. I felt like I was the best mom ever, then he decided to start eating like a 14 yr old boy and that all went out the window. My boy can EAT, and EAT and EAT but my check book(who used those anymore?) is not growing. Needless to say he gets his veggies and all that but if there happens to be a good sale on something not organic you bet he will be eating it.
I have to save the extra $ for my stupid expensive gluten free/dairy free etc. food. damn allergies.
btw- in a round about way, this whole post started with your boobs, if you really think about it...ha!
It DID start with my boobs. I "made" all of his food for a long ass time. G can also eat and eat and eat... then I gave up-ish on organic because seriously, we didn't eat as well as he did. And that's ridiculous.
I did buy Whole Foods brand wine the other day... because it was $6. That counts for something.
i have a major picky boy and it's hard to get anything but fruit in his mouth. i'm on this smoothie kick and tonight he successfully had his veggie servings in his 'berry' smoothie. it might become a regular thing around here, until he realizes that i'm putting spinach and carrots in his drinks.
Part of my problem is forgetfulness. He also will drink a smoothie with greens in it... when I remember to make it. Sigh. You guys are better moomsies. My memory is like a small blueberry.
You are definitely fancier than I. We do a lot of organic, but it is boring, simple and rotate the same 6 (on a good week) meals. I don't like to cook and my dietary restrictions suck, so....
I wish she loved dipping sauce...might make meals a little more exciting. Quesadillas are one of her favorites...cheese and black beans.
My little one loves smoothies...in fact she had one with dinner tonight. Would love to add spinach or anything healthy (green) for that matter to them...however if it looks even remotely green, not a chance she will drink it. So fruit smoothies it is! I figure there are worse things...right!?!
Kristi, I've made some smoothies with spinach in them (I buy a bag of chopped frozen) and mixed with a berry blend and the color is still kind of purple-y. Maybe worth a try? I'm thinking we'll have smoothies for a snack today...
Purple smoothies just make me think of the Vomitastrophe of Thanksgiving 2011. That is all.
This is what I am dealing with right now---introducing her to the food she liked pureed...but in solid... its hard!
True. If there is a stomach virus involved do NOT offer a purple smoothie.
Sigh, Ceci. come visit. bring that baby.
Okay...Berry blend with spinach...I will give it a try and let you know!
Thanks!
I was the same way with max. Homemade baby food to start and then when we moved to solids he wouldn't eat anything off of a spoon. Only finger foods and they had to be cut in a stick formation. That's when he got hooked on chicken nuggets. Gross. I kwow. I make myself feel better by saying they are the all white breast meat kind.
He's, I mean I'm, getting better and more creative. Quesadillas at good. As I hand him the fish stick I just baked. What? They're the all white meat kind. :)
Thanks for the shout out! Quesadillas are great veggie hiders! Dipping was huge for us between 1 and 2. Other dipping ideas: honey, hummus, BBQ sauce, fruit puree and peanut butter.
Good luck!
Brandy, you bring inspiration to my life. You're the inspiration. I wanna hear you say "ya" no one needs you more than I need you.
Wow. Yah, just pulled that out of my 1984 ass. Thank you though!
We have fish sticks and chicken nuggets in the freezer. I mean, I bake them.
